Government Services Reach Garcia Hernandez Residents
BOHOL - Government agencies brought a wide range of services directly to residents of Garcia Hernandez during the Barangayan sa Bagong Pilipinas and 4Ps sa 4Ps Localized Information and Service Caravan held on August 14 at the Garcia Hernandez Cultural and Training Center. More than 800 residents from the municipality’s 30 barangays visited different government service desks to process documents, access assistance, and receive information. The activity was also held as a send-off for graduating members of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
Responding to Disaster and Housing Concerns
The caravan was particularly significant for Garcia Hernandez because parts of the municipality continue to face risks associated with ground movement and landslides. A November 2025 land movement in Barangay Candanas shifted more than two hectares of ground toward the Manaba River, destroying 13 houses and damaging access pathways. DENR-MGB senior geologist Russyl Brylle Anthony Lanzaderas explained that the barangay is situated on deposits from an older landslide and that further ground movement remains possible, especially during sustained rainfall. Residents were encouraged to monitor the area and immediately report newly observed cracks to local authorities.
Building a More Prepared and Supported Garcia Hernandez
Other activities included a cupcake-baking demonstration for women, free haircuts, a peace symposium, internet connectivity for online transactions, and the distribution of 150 school bags to pupils of Candanas and Datag elementary schools. Government personnel also provided traffic management, crowd control, registration, and medical support, with agencies extending their services beyond the scheduled closing time to accommodate residents still waiting in line. The service caravan demonstrates how bringing government programs directly to communities can make public services more accessible while strengthening disaster preparedness, livelihood opportunities, and social protection. Through continued coordination among national agencies, the provincial government, and local communities, Garcia Hernandez residents can receive practical support while working toward a safer and more resilient municipality.
