Vaccination Campaign Extended to Reach More Children
BOHOL - The Department of Health (DOH) has extended the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), also known as the Ligtas Tigdas Campaign, until September 4, 2026. According to Dr. Van Phillip Baton, Chief of the Local Health Support Division of the DOH-7 Central Visayas Center for Health Development, the extension aims to give more children an opportunity to receive the vaccine. The campaign focuses on children aged 6 to 59 months who have not yet been vaccinated, helping ensure that fewer children are left without protection against measles and rubella.
More Than 137,000 Children Already Vaccinated
From August 10 to 29, 2026, a total of 137,042 children aged 6 to 59 months in Bohol, Cebu, and the highly urbanized cities of Central Visayas received the measles-rubella vaccine. The campaign demonstrates the continuing efforts of health authorities to increase immunization coverage among young children. By extending the vaccination period, health workers and communities have additional time to identify and reach eligible children who may have missed the earlier vaccination activities.
Protecting Children From Measles and Rubella
Every vaccinated child gains additional protection against measles and rubella, both of which can cause serious complications, particularly among children.
