Crime Prevention Starts With Community Action
BOHOL - National Police Commission Region 7 Regional Director Atty. Leonora Bartolome reminded Boholanos that effective crime prevention should begin days before a crime actually happens. Speaking during the opening of the week-long National Crime Prevention Week activities in Tagbilaran City, Bartolome stressed that preventing and addressing criminality is not solely the responsibility of the police. Instead, she emphasized the importance of cooperation among government agencies, schools, communities, and young people in creating safer communities.
Students Learn How to Recognize and Prevent Crimes
The awareness drive brought together students from Holy Spirit School, Bohol Wisdom School, Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City College, and criminology students undergoing police training. Participants were introduced to information on crime prevention and the importance of understanding and protecting human rights. The Women and Children Protection Center of the Visayas Field Unit also discussed the warning signs of trafficking in persons, online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, and child sexual abuse and exploitation materials. These discussions aimed to help young people recognize potential dangers and take appropriate action against abuse and exploitation.
Building a Safer and More Resilient Bohol
Representing Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, Atty. Handel Lagunay also called for stronger community cooperation in preventing crime. The National Crime Prevention Week activities demonstrate how education and public awareness can complement law enforcement efforts by helping residents, especially young people, become more informed about potential risks and their responsibilities. By bringing government agencies, schools, uniformed personnel, and communities together, Bohol continues to promote a culture of vigilance, cooperation, and shared responsibility toward creating a safer and more progressive province.
