Bringing Theater Arts Education Closer to Tubigon
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, brought the sixth leg of Panaw sa Alampat 2026: Bohol Arts and Cultural Travelogue to Tubigon through a three-day Theater Arts Workshop held at Mater Dei College from August 21–23, 2026. Implemented through the Bohol Center for Culture and Arts Development (BCCAD), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tubigon and Mater Dei College, the activity provided selected students with an opportunity to develop their skills through intensive theater and collaborative performance-making sessions. The workshop created a learning environment where participants could explore the different ways theater can be used to express stories and experiences rooted in their own community.
Students Explore Acting, Storytelling, and Local Narratives
The workshop featured hands-on activities covering acting, storytelling, character development, movement, stagecraft, and other essential elements of theater production. One of its key components was the creation of a theater musical based on a local story from Tubigon, allowing the participating students to transform elements of their community's history, traditions, experiences, and identity into a performance. Through this process, the students were able to develop their creative and collaborative skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for the stories and cultural traditions that form part of their local heritage. The activity also demonstrated how arts education can provide young people with meaningful opportunities to become active participants in preserving and sharing community narratives.
Empowering Young Boholanos as Cultural Storytellers
Through Panaw sa Alampat, the PGBh continues to bring arts and cultural education closer to communities across Bohol while encouraging young Boholanos to become storytellers and cultural bearers. Programs such as the Theater Arts Workshop help strengthen appreciation for local heritage by giving students the knowledge and creative tools to interpret and present their communities' stories through the arts. The initiative supports the preservation and promotion of Boholano culture while advancing the province's Strategic Change Agenda toward a smart, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Bohol. It also contributes to the province's vision as the Philippines' first and only UNESCO Global Geopark Regenerative Island, where culture, education, and community participation remain important parts of sustainable development.
