DAVAO CITY — Crews are working around the clock along the Talomo River to prevent a repeat of the severe flooding that recently devastated nearby communities. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is reinforcing the riverbank with new structures to protect residents from future flash floods.
Sealing the Gaps Against Raging Waters
The urgent project focuses on addressing critical weaknesses in the existing flood defenses. Workers are installing gabion wire-mesh baskets and concrete riprap, which serve as a fortified base for a taller barrier wall. These measures are designed to close dangerous low points in the dike where floodwaters previously surged through.
The work follows a presidential directive to expedite the construction of the dike gap. This gap was a major factor in the severe flooding that occurred in July. The DPWH is employing 24/7 operations to ensure the project is completed before the next heavy rains arrive.
