Dumaguete City continues to look toward a stronger future as local leaders, government officials, and stakeholders gathered for the 2026 State of the City Address (SOCA) on August 28, 2026, at the Presidencia, City Hall Grounds, highlighting the city’s accomplishments, ongoing programs, and priorities for the years ahead.
A Gathering of Leaders for Dumaguete’s Future
The annual State of the City Address brought together elected officials and representatives from across Negros Oriental, including provincial officials, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, congressional representatives, city and municipal mayors, vice mayors, and local legislators, creating an opportunity for leaders to come together and recognize the progress being made within their communities. The program formally opened with the procession of Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel T. Sagarbarria and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, followed by the invocation and the Philippine National Anthem performed by the NORSU Kabilin Grand Chorale under the direction of Prof. Miriam B. Eliaga.
Looking Back at Dumaguete’s Progress
During the special session, Mayor Manuel T. Sagarbarria delivered the 2026 State of the City Address, presenting the administration’s accomplishments and priorities while providing an overview of the city’s continuing efforts to improve public services and respond to the needs of its residents. The SOCA served as a moment for the city to reflect on the programs and initiatives already undertaken while also looking ahead to future plans that can contribute to Dumaguete’s continued growth and development.
Strengthening Partnerships Across Negros Oriental
The presence of Negros Oriental Governor Manuel “Chaco” L. Sagarbarria further highlighted the continuing cooperation between Dumaguete City and the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental, emphasizing the importance of partnerships among local government units in supporting projects and initiatives that benefit communities across the province. Together with Governor Chaco was Ma’am Juvilin S. Calago, who also joined the gathering alongside local leaders and stakeholders, reflecting the broad participation and shared interest in the continued development of Dumaguete City.
