Making Help Easier to Reach
GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The planned helpline provides residents with a simple option when worries, fear, stress, or emotional exhaustion begin affecting everyday life. Bombo Radyo reported that the City Health Office is reminding residents that they do not have to face difficult emotions alone and may contact the Mental Health Helpline at 0920 295 1719. The service is scheduled to receive calls every day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This kind of direct communication can make seeking assistance less complicated for someone who may not know where to begin. Instead of waiting until concerns become harder to manage, residents now have a clearly identified city health contact for support.
Building Support Beyond the Hotline
The helpline also fits into broader mental-health work already being carried out in General Santos City and the surrounding region. In June 2026, DOH-CHD SOCCSKSARGEN deployed Mental Health and Psychosocial Support teams to communities in General Santos affected by the June 8 earthquake. One operation in Purok Tanda, Barangay San Jose provided Psychological First Aid to 92 children and adults, while another DOH report recorded 70 individuals receiving Psychological First Aid in Dadiangas North. These activities show that mental-health assistance is not limited to ordinary circumstances; trained personnel are also being prepared to respond when emergencies place additional emotional pressure on communities.
A More Prepared Approach to Mental Well-Being
The development of the helpline comes as health authorities continue strengthening the skills needed to respond to mental-health concerns. In June 2026, DOH-CHD SOCCSKSARGEN conducted Mental Health and Psychosocial Support training in General Santos City covering psychological well-being, risk identification, referral systems, Psychological First Aid, and action planning for emergencies. The training sought to equip participants with practical knowledge for providing appropriate mental-health and psychosocial interventions. Against that backdrop, the City Health Office’s planned helpline offers another useful piece of the support system: a direct communication channel where residents can ask for help. Its value lies in making professional assistance easier to identify and reach.
