DAVAO DE ORO — The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro inaugurated three agricultural infrastructure projects worth PHP12.9 million at Lamdag Farm in Barangay Pasian, Monkayo, on May 26, 2026, signaling a major push to revive the hog industry devastated by African swine fever. The centerpiece is a PHP10-million Swine Multiplier and Technology Demonstration Farm, funded by the Department of Agriculture under the INSPIRE Program, a nationwide initiative to rebuild hog populations and restore livelihoods.
The province also inaugurated a PHP2.9-million greenhouse facility equipped with shading and irrigation systems for climate-resilient crop production. A new water system was also activated to support Lamdag Farm's expanding operations. The provincial government described the projects as designed to significantly contribute to agricultural development through modern technology, stronger production, and additional livelihood support for local farmers.
A Multi‑Pronged Push for Agricultural Recovery
The inauguration was not limited to infrastructure. On the same day, 1,490 farmers received a wide range of agricultural inputs. The distribution included 480 durian seedlings, 191 farm tools, 142 cans of vegetable seeds, 400 sacks of corn, 48 sacks of fertilizer, 40 sacks of fry mash booster, and 15,000 tilapia fingerlings. The comprehensive package addresses both immediate planting needs and long-term crop diversification.
In addition, 386 farmers received financial assistance through crop insurance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation. This support is designed to help them recover faster from the impact of recent shearline weather events on their livelihoods. The combination of infrastructure, inputs, and insurance creates a layered safety net that protects farmers against both disease outbreaks and extreme weather.
A Model for Sustainable Agricultural Development
The Swine Multiplier and Technology Demonstration Farm represents a strategic investment in biosecure, modern hog production. By establishing a controlled breeding facility, the province aims to produce healthy piglets that can safely repopulate backyard farms without reintroducing ASF. The technology demonstration component ensures that local farmers can learn best practices in disease prevention, feeding, and farm management.
The greenhouse facility adds a climate‑resilient dimension to the farm's operations. With shading and irrigation systems, the structure enables year‑round vegetable production regardless of extreme heat or heavy rainfall. The projects at Lamdag Farm demonstrate that recovery from agricultural crises requires coordinated investment across multiple fronts—livestock, crops, water, and farmer education. For the 1,490 beneficiaries, the May 26 inauguration marked a turning point.
