A golf course that saves water, protects biodiversity, and powers itself with smart irrigation is no longer a concept for the future — it is already here. Mimosa Plus Golf Course in Clark, Pampanga, has officially become the first golf facility in the Philippines to earn the globally recognized GEO Certification for Sustainable Golf .
The award, granted by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, honors the course’s commitment to environmental stewardship, climate action, and community engagement . As the first Philippine course to achieve this distinction, Mimosa Plus now stands alongside only 17 other GEO Certified courses across Asia, placing Pampanga on the global map for eco-conscious golf tourism.
Smart Irrigation and Drought-Resistant Grasses Lead the Green Revolution
The certification reflects years of deliberate work to reduce the environmental footprint of a sport often criticized for high water consumption. Mimosa Plus selected drought-resistant grass varieties — Zoysia Zeon and Trinity — that require significantly less water than traditional turf grasses . The course also implemented the Rainbird IC system, which allows management to remotely and precisely control water consumption, ensuring that not a drop is wasted.
Beyond water conservation, the course has introduced tree-tagging technology to monitor the health of its flora and has begun propagating plant nurseries internally rather than sourcing from external suppliers . Staff-led initiatives include the construction of bee sanctuaries and "Bug Hotels" across the property, promoting biodiversity in the heart of the golf course . GEO Accredited Independent Verifier Brad Revill noted, "I was very impressed by how much the entire team is engaged and motivated towards their sustainability goals".
From Night Golf to National Tourism Strategy
Beyond its environmental accolades, Mimosa Plus has become a centerpiece of the Philippine golf tourism strategy. In August 2025, the Department of Tourism launched the "Philippine Golf Experience" at the course, with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco stating that the initiative seeks to present golf "as a cultural and community-driven experience that sustains livelihoods and builds national pride" . The facility, which includes two 18-hole, par 72 courses, has been voted "Best Golf Course in the Philippines" since 2022.
The course also recently won the first-ever Conrado Benitez II Golf Course Management Champion of the Year Award in May 2026, recognized as the best-managed golf course in the country . With night golf now available, the 36-hole destination welcomes both seasoned golfers and beginners through its driving range and golf academy . The facility also actively supports the local Aeta community through employment opportunities and reforestation programs, proving that world-class recreation and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
