MAKATI CITY — Found within the creative enclave of La Fuerza Compound along Chino Roces Avenue, Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery has established itself as one of Makati's most dynamic contemporary art spaces since its founding in 2009. Originally starting as a vinyl records and art toy store, the gallery has evolved into a hub for experimental and emerging art forms that defy traditional classification. With its recently concluded exhibition "Vinyl Playground", a landmark group show of contemporary printmaking that ran through June 27, 2026, the gallery continues to push creative boundaries and showcase both established masters and emerging voices.
A Space for Unconventional Creative Expression
Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery is defined by its commitment to unusual and experimental creative techniques. The gallery's programming embraces sound art, manipulated video and photography, social media performance art, soft sculpture installations, massive origami forms, and other unclassified methodologies. This dedication to artistic innovation has made it a go-to destination for those seeking something beyond traditional painting and sculpture. The gallery's participation in ALT ART 2026 as part of the ALT Collectives, a consortium of nine premier galleries, further underscores its position as a vital force in the Philippine contemporary art scene. Gallery owner Gabby B. Dela Merced has been instrumental in expanding the gallery's reach, giving each gallery partner the opportunity to select artists and bring a more personal voice to exhibitions.
Recent Exhibition: Vinyl Playground
Running through June 27, 2026, "Vinyl Playground" transformed the gallery into an artistic laboratory where over 20 artists pushed the boundaries of ink, paper, and alternative mediums. Curated by Kaye O'Yek, the exhibition featured experimental processes including intricate rubber-cut prints, spontaneous monoprints, and striking mixed-media works. The lineup included a diverse range of artists such as A.lien x Maria Chavez, Salvador J. Ching, Joey Cobcobo, Buds Convocar, Noell EL Farol, Jethro Jocson, Samm Occeno, Ronaldo Ruiz, and Wesley Valenzuela, among others. Each artist brought a unique conceptual approach, creating a rich dialogue of textures, narratives, and techniques that challenged the traditional confines of printmaking.
A Hub for Music, Art, and Community
True to its name, Vinyl on Vinyl maintains its connection to music culture while expanding into contemporary art. The gallery has hosted soundscape exhibitions, including "In The Raw" by Dayang Yraola, which featured listening stations where audiences could experience recordings organized by themes of nature, brick & mortar, humans and other animals, and machines. The gallery also fosters a creative community, having collaborated with institutions like SM North EDSA and ASEANA for public art projects and workshops.
