Cebu — Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) transiting through the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) now have a dedicated space to rest, recharge, and access essential government services. Officially opened on June 26, 2026, the new OFW Lounge at Terminal 2 is the third of its kind in the country, following successful launches at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Designed as a sanctuary for those preparing to embark on journeys abroad, the facility stands as a tangible commitment to the welfare and dignity of our modern-day heroes. By consolidating comfort and administrative efficiency under one roof, the government aims to ensure that every OFW’s departure is marked by care and appreciation rather than travel-related stress.
Comfort and Convenience for the Modern Traveler
The new lounge is equipped to handle up to 80 guests at a time, offering a suite of complimentary amenities designed to ease the pre-flight experience. Visitors can enjoy free food and drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi, and dedicated charging stations, all within a comfortable environment meant for resting before long-haul international flights. Beyond these comforts, the facility acts as a strategic hub for OWWA frontline services. OFWs can now conveniently handle membership registration and renewal, process the issuance of their OWWA E-Cards, and access various social protection programs without needing to visit separate satellite offices. To make the experience even better, a new partnership with local airport merchants offers exclusive dining and retail discounts specifically for OWWA E-Card holders.
Streamlining the Journey from Departure to Return
The launch also introduced an OFW Facilitation Center located at the arrivals level, which functions as a one-stop shop for returning and transiting workers. This center is critical for processing travel-related documentation, such as the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), allowing workers to resolve administrative hurdles efficiently. According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, these integrated facilities are a "matter of dignity," ensuring that our migrant workers spend less time navigating bureaucracy and more time enjoying precious final moments with their families.
