ILOILO CITY — The Java Road inside Iloilo Business Park is alive with the whir of wheels and the cheers of spectators this morning, June 14, 2026, as the Mega Criterium Race reaches its second and final day. Road bikes take center stage after yesterday's mountain bike competition opened the weekend. The criterium is a centerpiece of the 12th Iloilo Bike Festival.
Riders from across the country are competing on a closed circuit within the 72‑hectare Megaworld township in Mandurriao. The wide road networks and dedicated bike lanes, purpose‑built for competitive cycling, provide an ideal urban racetrack. Spectators have lined the course since early morning, turning the business district into a festival of speed.
A Course Built for Speed and Spectacle
Criterium racing is cycling's most spectator‑friendly discipline. Short laps, tight corners, and blistering sprints keep the action constant and visible. Java Road's layout delivers exactly that, with riders pushing the pace on every circuit. The road bike category today brings sleeker, faster machines and a different tactical rhythm than yesterday's mountain bikes.
The event draws both elite competitors and passionate amateurs, reflecting the festival's inclusive spirit. The Iloilo Bike Festival, a Galing Pook Awardee, has grown into a national model for active mobility. Its theme this year, "Flow City: Iloilo Always on the Move," captures the city's commitment to two‑wheeled transport.
A Festival That Keeps Iloilo Moving
The Mega Criterium is one of more than a dozen events across June. The festival opened with the Active Mobility Conference and World Bicycle Day on June 3. Bike‑to‑Work Day followed on June 5, while the Food Bike Crawl has been running since June 6. Still to come are the Push Bike Race, Iloilo Duathlon, Grand Fun Ride, Battle of the Bands, and an Electric Car and Solar Show.
The Iloilo Business Park has become the festival's permanent home, its pedestrian corridors and cycling infrastructure setting a benchmark for Philippine townships. Megaworld's investment in bike‑friendly design has positioned the property as a venue capable of hosting national‑level cycling competitions. For visitors, the festival offers a chance to see Iloilo as the country's undisputed bike capital.
