ILOILO CITY — A new generation of skilled tourism professionals is about to enter Iloilo's workforce. The Technical Institute of Iloilo City has successfully passed a compliance audit for its Tourism Promotion Services NC II program, clearing a major hurdle toward full TESDA registration. The audit, which included a fire safety inspection by the Bureau of Fire Protection, confirmed that the institute meets nearly all requirements. Once the remaining signage and maintenance checklist items are completed, the program will be formally approved.
This development, announced on June 16, 2026, also positions TIIC to secure approval for its Housekeeping NC II program. Together, these two new offerings will bring TIIC's total TESDA‑registered courses to nine. For Iloilo City, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and a rising MICE destination, this means a direct boost to the quality of service visitors can expect in hotels, restaurants, and tourism sites.
A Critical Investment in Tourism Manpower
The Tourism Promotion Services NC II course trains individuals to promote local destinations, provide accurate information, and identify customer needs. The Housekeeping NC II program equips learners with skills for maintaining clean, comfortable accommodations. Both are essential for a city experiencing record tourism arrivals and hotel expansion.
TIIC's expanded curriculum directly addresses the demand for well‑trained personnel in Iloilo's booming hospitality industry. With new hotels opening and the Iloilo Convention Center hosting a full calendar of events, the need for certified tourism workers has never been greater. These programs ensure that Ilonggos can access quality training and secure stable employment in the growing visitor economy.
Supporting Iloilo's MICE and Leisure Ambitions
Iloilo City has already outpaced Metro Cebu in office transactions and boasts a 96‑percent house‑and‑lot take‑up rate. Its tourism sector is equally dynamic, with festivals, heritage tours, and gastronomic experiences drawing visitors year‑round. The city's MICE Alliance is actively bidding to host the Philippine MICE Conference in 2027.
A skilled workforce is the backbone of this growth. The new TESDA programs will supply the tourism industry with competent professionals who can deliver the warm Ilonggo hospitality that visitors remember. For travelers, this means a more seamless and enriching experience from the moment they check into their hotel to the guided tours that showcase Iloilo's rich cultural heritage.
A Green Light for Growth
The successful compliance audit is a significant milestone for TIIC. Once the remaining signage requirements are installed, the institute will undergo final reinspection. Approval of the two programs is expected shortly thereafter, expanding TIIC's registered offerings to nine.
This expansion aligns with the city government's broader strategy to create sustainable livelihoods and strengthen the local economy. By investing in its people, Iloilo is ensuring that its tourism boom benefits everyone. The new programs represent a strategic investment in human capital, equipping Ilonggos with the skills to thrive in one of the Philippines' most dynamic urban centers.
