Japan — During a high-level business roundtable in Tokyo on May 27, 2026, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. successfully secured approximately P210 billion ($3.4 billion) in investment commitments from leading Japanese corporations. This significant financial infusion, announced during the President’s four-day state visit to Japan, marks a massive vote of confidence in the Philippine administration's economic agenda. The meeting, held at the Imperial Hotel, brought together top executives from Japan's largest conglomerates and financial institutions to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

Catalyzing Long-Term Economic Growth
The newly secured capital is expected to catalyze substantive macroeconomic benefits, including the expansion of domestic industrial capacity and the creation of thousands of high-quality, specialized jobs for Filipinos. By fortifying local supply chains, upgrading tourism infrastructure, and accelerating technology transfers, these investments are positioned to deliver long-term dividends for the country. President Marcos highlighted that the Philippines is pursuing a coordinated national strategy where infrastructure, finance, and human capital move together to drive economic expansion, with trade and tourism serving as core pillars of this growth.
Strengthening the Philippine-Japan Economic Corridor
As both nations commemorate 70 years of normalized diplomatic relations, President Marcos emphasized that this new chapter is defined by deeper integration and shared growth rather than just historical ties. He recognized the foundational contributions of Japanese firms already operating in the country—such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Marubeni, Toyota, Panasonic, Fast Retailing, and All Nippon Airways—and thanked them for their continued trust. “You are no longer just investors in our economy. You are builders of it,” the President told the business leaders, assuring them that the government is continuously modernizing its institutions to ensure investment stability and efficiency.
