MAKATI CITY — The spirit of bayanihan was on full display as Makati City formally launched Brigada Eskwela 2026 through a kick-off program held at Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School. The annual school-preparation initiative gathered parents, teachers, students, and community volunteers to help ready public school facilities before the start of School Year 2026–2027. The event underscored the city’s commitment to providing learners with clean, safe, and supportive environments for education.
Bayanihan at the Heart of School Preparation
Brigada Eskwela, the flagship school-readiness program of the Department of Education, encourages stakeholders across the country to take part in cleaning, repairing, and improving public schools ahead of the opening of classes. This year’s theme, “Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman,” highlights the importance of collective action in creating organized, welcoming, and learning-focused school environments. In Makati, the launch became a gathering point for volunteers from different sectors, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence through strong community involvement. The initiative also promotes voluntary participation, ensuring that contributions, whether through labor, materials, or professional expertise, are offered freely and without obligation.
Getting Schools Ready for the New Academic Year
The week-long Brigada Eskwela program, held from June 1 to 5, includes a variety of activities such as classroom cleaning, minor repairs, repainting projects, and facility maintenance. Schools also organize reading sessions, storytelling activities, tree-planting efforts, and other enrichment programs aimed at creating a more engaging learning environment. In Makati, the kick-off event at Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School symbolized the community’s shared commitment to welcoming students back to classrooms that are safe, organized, and prepared for learning. The city government’s active participation reflects its continued investment in education as a vital component of community development.
Strengthening Community Support for Education
Beyond improving school facilities, Brigada Eskwela serves as an opportunity to deepen partnerships between schools and the communities they serve. Parents, local officials, private-sector partners, and volunteers work together toward a common goal: supporting the education and well-being of young learners. This collaborative effort not only enhances the physical condition of schools but also reinforces the idea that education is a shared responsibility. As classes officially begin on June 8, the successful launch of Brigada Eskwela 2026 in Makati signals a positive start for thousands of students, made possible through the dedication of volunteers who believe every child deserves a welcoming place to learn, grow, and succeed.
