Bohol — Young athletes from Dagohoy will get their chance to learn from the best on June 27, 2026, as the Abante Grassroots Sports Clinic rolls into town. The one‑day clinic promises a full day of training across five sports, all designed to spark new passion and uncover hidden talent.
A Day Packed with Action
From eight in the morning until five in the afternoon, children aged eight to twelve will rotate through intensive sessions in arnis, basketball, athletics, football, and softball. Coaches will guide participants through drills that sharpen fundamentals while keeping the fun front and center. The goal is to make every child leave the clinic tired, smiling, and eager to continue playing.
The event is not just about teaching skills; it is also about building character and discipline. Organizers believe that sports instill values that serve children well beyond the court or field. For many of these kids, this clinic will be their first exposure to structured athletic training, opening doors they never knew existed.
The HANAS Program in Motion
The clinic runs under the HANAS Program, which stands for Harnessing New and Advanced Sports Skills. HANAS is the Provincial Youth Development Office’s flagship initiative to bring quality training directly to municipalities, eliminating the need for families to travel to the city. The program focuses on the youngest age group, understanding that early exposure builds a strong athletic foundation.
HANAS aligns with the Philippine Sports Commission’s competency standards, ensuring that even a one‑day clinic delivers age‑appropriate and progressive instruction. The program also serves as an initial scouting ground, where standout performers can be identified for further development. From here, promising athletes may be invited to centralized camps at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran.
Provincial Government Backs Youth Development
Governor Aris Aumentado has made sports development a key piece of his administration’s Strategic Change Agenda on Social Equity and Human Development. The province believes that investing in youth through sports is an investment in healthier, more productive communities. The Abante Grassroots Sports Clinic is a direct expression of that belief.
The Provincial Youth Development Office coordinates with local government units to ensure clinics like this one reach even the farthest municipalities. Dagohoy, with its vibrant community and active youth population, was chosen as a priority site. Officials are optimistic that this clinic will not only produce future athletes but also inspire families to support their children’s athletic dreams.
Building on Bohol’s Winning Momentum
The Dagohoy clinic arrives at a time of remarkable sports achievement for the province. Earlier this year, Bohol placed second overall at the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet, collecting 84 gold medals. The athletics team alone brought home 34 golds, proving that the grassroots pipeline is alive and well.
Boholano athletes also shone at the Palarong Pambansa in May and at the Batang Pambansa games, where two national golds were secured. The clinic in Dagohoy feeds directly into this success story, serving as the first step for children who may one day represent the province and the country on larger stages.
