eGilas Pilipinas captured its first-ever eFIBA world title after a dominant performance at the Mall of Qatar in Doha. The Philippines defeated Türkiye in the best-of-three championship series, sweeping the finals with 64-62 and 68-60 victories . The team, composed of Miguel Hubillar, Chris Briones, Kenneth Gutierrez, Joshua Machado, and Prich Diez, swept the group stage with convincing wins over France (64-53), Algeria (73-52), and Germany (72-45) . After eliminating Lebanon in the upper bracket semifinals, the squad faced its stiffest challenge against France, losing the first game before bouncing back with two straight wins to secure a finals berth.
Individual Brilliance and Laus Group Support
Miguel Hubillar was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 24.0 points and 7.4 assists throughout the competition . In the clincher against Türkiye, the 19-year-old University of Santo Tomas student exploded for 32 points and nine assists to power the Philippines to victory . His stellar court vision and scoring ability earned him a spot on the All-Star Five alongside fellow Filipinos Kenneth Gutierrez and Joshua Machado . Gutierrez also received Best Defensive Player honors after averaging 3.0 steals per game . The team is backed by the Laus Group, a Pampanga-based conglomerate that has been instrumental in developing esports talent outside Metro Manila . After consecutive fourth-place finishes in 2023 and 2024, Hubillar credited stronger team chemistry and a month-long boot camp as key factors in their championship run.
