Bohol — Tagbilaran City reached a historic milestone on July 1, 2026, as it officially commemorated its 60th Charter Day. Under the banner theme "One Family, One City," the capital of Bohol launched a yearlong Diamond Jubilee celebration that honors six decades of transformation—from its humble origins as a component city in 1966 to its current status as a bustling hub of commerce, education, and culture. The festivities kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass at the St. Joseph the Worker Diocesan Shrine and Cathedral-Parish, followed by a grand launch at the Tagbilaran City Friendship Park, where local leaders and residents gathered to reflect on the city's journey and shared future.
Honoring a Rich History of Growth
The Diamond Jubilee serves as more than just a celebratory event; it is a tribute to the visionaries and residents who have shaped Tagbilaran since it was chartered on July 1, 1966, through Republic Act No. 4660. City officials, led by Mayor Jane Yap, Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, and First District Congressman John Geesnell "Baba" Yap, joined the community in expressing gratitude for the collective resilience that has defined the city’s progress. This yearlong observance is designed to foster deeper civic pride and unity, with a calendar full of activities ranging from heritage exhibits and cultural performances to community service initiatives. By highlighting the people and institutions that have fueled the city's advancement, the local government aims to strengthen the bond of the "Tagbilaranon family" as they look toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.
A Day of Commemoration and Service
In strict observance of Republic Act No. 8267, which designates July 1 of every year as a non-working special public holiday for the City of Tagbilaran, government offices across the city observed a temporary closure to allow employees and residents to participate in the milestone celebrations. Among those observing the holiday was the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Field Office – Bohol, which suspended operations for the day to join the city in its festivities. Regular government services are set to resume promptly on Thursday, July 2, 2026. This day of respite and reflection underscores the significance of Tagbilaran’s cityhood, ensuring that the entire community can pause to honor the city that serves as the beating heart of the Province of Bohol.
