Chowking was founded in 1985 by Robert F. Kuan, who pioneered the Chinese-style fast food category in the Philippines by combining wok-cooked Chinese favorites like chao fan, siopao and lauriat with fast-food speed and pricing. The chain grew into the country's dominant Chinese quick-service brand and was acquired by Jollibee Foods Corporation in March 2000.
