Taco Bell originated in California and was founded by Glen Bell, who opened the first Taco Bell restaurant in 1962 in Downey, California. Before Taco Bell, he ran a hamburger stand called Bell's Hamburgers and opened his first taco stand, Taco Tia, in 1954. Glen Bell invented the Crunchy Taco, and the Crunchwrap Supreme later became the brand's most successful product introduction.
