A Landmark Facility for Philippine Skateboarding
BACOLOD - Bacolod City has added another milestone to its growing sports infrastructure with the inauguration of the Bacolod Skate Park in Barangay Vista Alegre, now recognized as the largest covered skate park in the Philippines. Covering approximately 1,355 square meters, the facility was funded by the national government and officially inaugurated by Mayor Greg Gasataya and Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez together with local officials and members of the skateboarding community. The covered design allows athletes to train and compete regardless of weather conditions, making it one of the country's premier venues for skateboarding and BMX events. The project reflects Bacolod's continued investment in world-class sports facilities that encourage youth participation and athletic development.
Expanding Opportunities for Athletes and Sports Tourism
The skate park forms part of a larger sports complex that also includes a multi-purpose center equipped with a basketball court and spectator bleachers. City officials believe these facilities will strengthen Bacolod's bid to host major sporting competitions, including future editions of the Batang Pinoy Games and other national tournaments. Shortly after its opening, the venue was selected to host the MassKaralympics BMX and Skateboard Competition, attracting participants from different parts of the country. By providing high-quality facilities, Bacolod creates more opportunities for local athletes to compete at higher levels while encouraging sports tourism that benefits the city's economy.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Champions
The opening of the skate park has been warmly welcomed by Bacolod's skateboarding community, many of whom have long dreamed of having a dedicated covered training facility. National skateboarding athlete Cindy Lou Serna, a Bacolod native and the Skate Pilipinas 2025 Tour Women's Champion, expressed optimism that the new venue will help nurture more young athletes capable of representing the city and the Philippines in international competitions. Local architects and sports advocates also highlighted the importance of promoting skateboarding and BMX, both recognized Olympic sports that continue to grow in popularity worldwide. With modern facilities now available, Bacolod is well-positioned to develop future champions while establishing itself as one of the country's leading hubs for action sports and youth athletics.
