GWACHEON, South Korea — South Korea’s Ministry of Justice has extended its visa fee waiver for group tourists from six countries, including the Philippines, through December 31, 2026. The decision makes it cheaper for Filipino families and friends to visit the country, directly benefiting overseas Filipino workers who want to reunite with loved ones.
Savings for Group Travelers
Under the extended program, government visa issuance fees are completely waived for tourists traveling to South Korea in organized groups. The waiver applies to the Group Tourist (C‑3‑2) Visa, which requires travelers to join a package tour arranged by an accredited travel agency. The standard fee of $15 is removed, making the application process lighter on the pocket.
For a family of four, the savings on government fees alone can reach around ₱3,500. While the program does not cover individual tourist visas or work visas, it opens a clear path for OFWs in South Korea to bring their parents, spouses, or children on a short, affordable visit. The fixed itinerary and agency‑handled documentation also reduce the paperwork burden on working Pinoys who may not have time to process applications themselves.
High Compliance Keeps Doors Open
South Korea’s confidence in extending the waiver stems from strong compliance data. In 2025, approximately 790,000 foreign visitors entered the country on group visas, a 39 percent increase from the previous year. Only 0.07 percent of those group tourists overstayed, a figure that dropped by more than half from earlier periods. These numbers signal to Korean authorities that Filipino group travelers are low‑risk, encouraging continued hospitality.
The extension is part of a national tourism strategy launched earlier this year to boost regional economies and attract more visitors. For the Philippines, the program strengthens people‑to‑people ties and reinforces the country’s reputation as a source of responsible tourists.

It is important to note that the fee waiver only covers the government visa charge. Travel agencies may still collect their own service fees for handling the group application.
