Reliable data plays an important role in helping local governments understand community needs, develop responsive programs, and plan for sustainable growth. In Taguig City, the use of accurate and updated information supports efforts to improve public services, reach residents who need assistance, and strengthen tourism development. The importance of data was highlighted during the city’s observance of the 37th National Statistics Month, which carried the theme “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism.” The occasion emphasized how statistics can help guide decisions that affect communities, public welfare, and the local tourism sector.

Taguig Uses Community Data to Improve Public Services

The Taguig City Integrated Survey System (TCISS) gathers and analyzes information about residents’ demographics, basic needs, livelihood, education, health, and peace and order. Established in 2010, the system helps the city identify community concerns and develop programs that respond to the needs of Taguigeños. Its initiatives include family verification, junk shop mapping, regular database updates, and ongoing census activities. These efforts help maintain information that can support planning, service delivery, and the identification of residents who may need government assistance.

Reliable information is also relevant to social services. TCISS assists in the monthly distribution of maintenance medicines to approximately 28,000 to 30,000 beneficiaries, highlighting how organized data can help support the delivery of essential services to residents.

Reliable Statistics Support Inclusive and Responsive Programs

Accurate data can help local governments understand where services are needed and how public programs can better reach their intended beneficiaries. By maintaining updated community records, officials can use more informed approaches when planning assistance and allocating resources. During the observance, Councilor Marjorie “Gigi” Bermas, chairperson of the Committee on Population and Migration, highlighted the importance of reliable data in helping families recover from challenges and ensuring that residents are not left behind. This focus on inclusive service delivery demonstrates the practical value of statistics in community development. Information about residents’ circumstances and needs can help guide programs intended to support families, improve access to services, and create opportunities for more people to benefit from local initiatives.

Data Helps Guide Sustainable Tourism in Taguig

Beyond public services, reliable data can also contribute to tourism planning and economic development. Understanding visitor needs, community resources, and local conditions can help destinations prepare for tourism activities while considering the welfare of residents and the long-term sustainability of the area. TCISS head Gabriel Buluran emphasized the role of tourism in economic development and the importance of preparing communities to accommodate visitors. Planning based on reliable information can help communities better understand tourism-related opportunities and challenges as the city continues to develop its visitor experiences. The connection between statistics and sustainable tourism reflects the broader value of evidence-based planning. By using relevant information to guide decisions, Taguig can work toward tourism initiatives that consider economic opportunities, community needs, and inclusive development.
