Small businesses are vital to the growth of local communities, providing employment opportunities and supporting the economy. To help entrepreneurs strengthen their operations while protecting their workers, the Taguig City government partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to conduct a labor standards seminar. The initiative aims to promote responsible business management, fair wages, and safer workplaces across the city.

DOLE and Taguig Equip Entrepreneurs With Labor Knowledge

The Office of the City Public Employment Service Manager (OPES) and the Taguig Cooperative Development Office (TCDO), in partnership with the DOLE-MUNTAPARLAS Field Office, organized a Technical and Advisory Services (TAS) seminar on October 29 at TLC Park Village in Barangay Lower Bicutan. The activity gathered 75 business owners, cooperative members, and entrepreneurs to discuss proper business management and compliance with labor standards. DOLE representatives provided technical advice on workplace regulations, employee welfare, and occupational safety. The seminar aimed to help local establishments operate more effectively while ensuring the protection of their workers.

Promoting Fair Wages and Employee Benefits

The seminar covered important labor regulations, including minimum wage requirements, mandatory employee contributions, working hours, rest periods, overtime pay, holiday pay, and 13th-month pay. Participants also learned about wage exemptions, employee leave documentation, and Barangay Micro Business Enterprise registration. Labor officers explained how businesses can comply with occupational safety and health standards through accident prevention, workplace inspections, and proper hazard control. These discussions provided entrepreneurs with practical knowledge to improve their business operations while meeting their responsibilities toward employees.

Building Responsible and Sustainable Local Businesses

Representing Mayor Lani Cayetano, Councilor Carlito Ogalinola emphasized that effective business management must include the welfare of workers. The seminar also introduced participants to DOLE programs, available assistance, and tools for improving productivity and employee welfare. Business owners were guided in completing the TAS checklist and action plan to assess their compliance and identify areas for improvement. Through these initiatives, the Taguig City government continues to support small businesses in developing responsible management practices and creating safer, more productive workplaces.
