Creating New Opportunities Through Mango Processing
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol, under the leadership of Governor Aris Aumentado, joined the turnover of the VLFED-Mango Jam Processing Center to the Ubay CARP Beneficiaries Credit Cooperative on September 9, 2026, in San Francisco, Ubay. Representing the governor were Executive Assistant for Agriculture Gil Bongato and Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) Community Development Officer Benjamin Villeno. The processing center provides the cooperative with an additional productive asset that can help its members process locally grown mangoes into value-added products.
Turning Local Mangoes Into Sustainable Livelihoods
The new processing facility can provide cooperative members with opportunities to expand beyond the production and sale of raw agricultural products. By processing locally grown mangoes into products such as mango jam and other potential value-added goods, the cooperative can explore additional sources of income while developing its enterprise capabilities. The facility can also help create opportunities for market expansion, allowing members to explore new customers and strengthen the economic value of locally produced agricultural commodities.
Strengthening Cooperatives Through Convergence and Enterprise Development
The turnover reflects the importance of collaboration among government agencies and local partners in helping communities maximize available resources. Through convergence efforts involving the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Local Government Unit of Ubay, and other partners, the Provincial Government of Bohol continues to support cooperatives in developing productive and sustainable enterprises. These efforts are aligned with the province’s Strategic Change Agenda and contribute to livelihood generation, local economic development, and stronger agricultural communities across Bohol, the country’s first and only UNESCO Global Geopark.
