Strengthening Environmental Management in Government
BOHOL - Advancing environmental responsibility in government operations remains a priority of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) as it continues to strengthen environmental management practices across its offices. The Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) conducted an Environmental Management System (EMS) Coaching and Mentoring activity for EMS Implementing Committees, Alternate Committees, and PGBh EMS Internal Auditors on August 26 in Tagbilaran City. Guided by Deputy EMR Ryan Palma and EMS Coach Luther Bersales, the activity aimed to improve EMS implementation, promote compliance with environmental standards, and support continual improvement across the provincial government’s 32 EMS-implementing offices.
Improving Compliance and Environmental Practices
Participants took part in sessions covering waste management and proper waste segregation, environmental legal requirements, and the preparation of NCAR, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. These discussions provided EMS personnel with practical guidance for identifying and addressing environmental concerns within their respective offices. An interactive open forum also allowed participants to clarify requirements, discuss implementation challenges, and share best practices, helping establish a common understanding of EMS processes, responsibilities, and compliance expectations.
Building a More Sustainable Provincial Government
The coaching activity enhanced the competence and accountability of EMS personnel, equipping them to address nonconformities, improve environmental performance, and maintain effective environmental management practices. Strengthening these systems across government offices contributes to more responsible operations while encouraging a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement. The initiative supports the PGBh’s commitment to environmental protection and aligns with its Strategic Governance Roadmap and vision for Bohol as the Philippines’ first UNESCO Global Geopark, where sustainable development and environmental stewardship remain central to the province’s future.
