Bohol — The province of Bohol is in full swing with preparations for its much-anticipated annual celebration, "Sandugo sa Bohol 2026." This month-long festival commemorates the historic 1565 blood compact—or sandugo (meaning "one blood")—between Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and the Boholano chieftain Datu Sikatuna, marking the first international treaty of friendship on Philippine soil.
A Grand Celebration of Heritage
The festival serves as a vibrant showcase of Boholano culture, history, and community spirit. This year’s festivities are anchored by the highly anticipated Street Dancing and Grand Showdown competition, scheduled for July 26 at the CPG Complex in Tagbilaran City. Nine municipalities—Alburquerque, Loay, Maribojoc, Antequera, Valencia, Dimiao, Ubay, Catigbian, and Talibon—are set to compete for the prestigious "Festival of Festivals" championship. To support the participating local government units (LGUs), the provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Aris Aumentado, has allocated a subsidy of P1 million for each competing municipality.

Ensuring the success of such a massive event requires meticulous planning. The Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD), led by Emerson Pinos, has been coordinating with national and provincial agencies, the Tagbilaran City government, and various stakeholders to manage operational details.
