Planning a Cleaner and More Secure Energy Future
BOHOL - Strengthening energy security and accelerating the transition to clean energy remain key priorities of the Provincial Government of Bohol. Through the Bohol Renewable Energy Board (BREB) and its Technical Working Group, in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), the province conducted the Bohol Renewable Energy Roadmap Scoping Workshop on August 11–14 in Dauis. Carrying the theme “Localizing Energy Transition: Empowering Local Governments to Co-Create the Renewable Energy Roadmap,” the workshop brought together government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders to identify strategies and priorities for Bohol’s renewable energy development.
Strengthening Policies and Exploring Renewable Energy Opportunities
Representing Gov. Aris Aumentado, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Handel T. Lagunay reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to renewable energy initiatives and stronger stakeholder collaboration toward long-term energy security. Key discussions included the Bohol Renewable Energy Code and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, presented by Atty. Reynard D. Namocatcat of the Provincial Legal Office, providing important policy guidance for the roadmap’s development and implementation. Participants also examined Bohol’s energy profile, renewable energy potential, grid integration, resilient energy solutions, financing mechanisms, and investment opportunities. Experiences from the Province of Iloilo’s renewable energy planning were also shared to provide additional insights for Bohol’s roadmap.
Creating a Resilient and Future-Ready Energy Sector
The workshop identified priority targets, strategic actions, and implementation requirements that will guide the next stages of Bohol’s renewable energy roadmap, including technical studies and further stakeholder consultations. By bringing government institutions, local governments, and partners together, the initiative helps establish a coordinated approach to expanding clean energy while addressing the province’s long-term energy needs. The effort supports Bohol’s commitment to sustainable development as the country’s first UNESCO Global Geopark and aligns with the province’s Strategic Governance Roadmap toward a more resilient, sustainable, and future-ready energy sector.
