Expanding Hospital Facilities and Medical Services
BOHOL - The Provincial Government is working toward increasing hospital capacity through several planned developments. During the October 31, 2026 meeting of the Provincial Development Council's Social Development Sector, Medical Center Chief II Dr. Miguelito Jayoma of Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC)-Tagbilaran reported plans to open 56 additional beds, acquire another 100-bed hospital under its medium-term plan, and expand capacity by more than 700 beds in the long term. Gallares-Cortes is also preparing to open 50 beds and introduce radiotherapy services, which would broaden the medical care available to patients.
Improving Referrals and Emergency Medical Response
Hospital capacity is only one part of improving healthcare access. Board Member Mutya Tirol presented two proposed ordinances intended to strengthen integrated and closed-group hospital referral systems. These proposals emphasize coordination among healthcare institutions and the use of data to guide budget decisions based on community needs. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Mary Fruserma Uy also reported that Bohol had complied with requirements for anti-venom vaccine prepositioning, with the goal of making the treatment available within 30 minutes. These efforts highlight the importance of connecting patients to appropriate medical services and preparing for urgent health situations.
Bringing Healthcare Facilities Closer to Communities
The province is also monitoring the development of super health centers that can provide more accessible medical services outside major hospitals. The Provincial Planning and Development Office recorded 11 completed facilities, four ongoing projects, and five that had yet to begin construction. Once operational, these centers can help bring basic healthcare services closer to residents and support the broader provincial health system. Through hospital improvements, coordinated referrals, and continued facility development, Bohol is working toward a healthcare network that can respond to the needs of communities across the province.
