Strengthening Financial Knowledge in Bohol Communities
BOHOL - Bohol continues to strengthen efforts toward building financially informed communities through an educational initiative focused on deposit insurance and responsible banking. The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), in collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Central Visayas Regional Office and the Bohol Provincial Information Center (BPIC), conducted “PDIC 101: Understanding Deposit Insurance” on September 10, 2026, at Panda Tea Garden Suites in Tagbilaran City. The media education activity provided participants with information that can help communities better understand how deposit insurance works and why keeping savings in regulated banks can provide greater financial security.
Promoting Confidence and Protection for Depositors
PDIC Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group Jose Villaret, Jr. led the discussion covering deposit insurance, the importance of saving through banks, and the protection available to depositors. The session emphasized key principles including protection, depositor-friendliness, interoperability, and confidence, helping participants better understand the role of deposit insurance in maintaining trust in the banking system. Also joining the activity were Auramar Calbario, Manager of the PDIC Corporate Communications Department, and Rey Anthony Chiu, Bohol Provincial Information Center Coordinator. By strengthening financial knowledge among information professionals, the initiative can help ensure that accurate information about banking and deposit protection reaches more people in local communities.
Bohol’s Growing Bank Deposits Reflect Increasing Participation
The engagement also highlighted the growth of Bohol’s banking sector, with the province’s bank deposits increasing by 18.7 percent from March 2025 to March 2026. This growth outpaced the 9.3-percent regional increase, reflecting greater participation and confidence in the province’s banking sector. The initiative supports the Strategic Governance Roadmap of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under Gov. Aris Aumentado, by promoting financially informed and resilient communities. As Bohol works toward becoming a smarter, more inclusive, and sustainable province, financial education remains an important part of strengthening households and communities across the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark.
