Building a Renewable Energy Roadmap for Bohol

BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Bohol Renewable Energy Board (BREB) and its Technical Working Group (TWG), in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), conducted the Bohol Renewable Energy Roadmap Scoping Workshop from August 11 to 14, 2026, at Panglao Vista Suites in Dao, Dauis, Bohol. Carrying the theme “Localizing Energy Transition: Empowering Local Governments to Co-Create the Renewable Energy Roadmap,” the workshop aimed to strengthen local capacity and support the formulation of a comprehensive renewable energy roadmap for the province. The activity brought together stakeholders for technical discussions, consultations, brainstorming, and collaborative planning focused on Bohol’s long-term energy needs.

Strengthening Energy Security and Renewable Energy Development

The workshop examined Bohol’s current energy situation, including rising electricity demand, dependence on imported fuels, and the need to maximize the province’s renewable energy potential. Discussions emphasized the important role of local governments in advancing renewable energy development, strengthening energy security, and building a more reliable and climate-resilient energy system. Governor Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado, represented by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Handel T. Lagunay, conveyed the Provincial Government’s commitment to renewable energy development and highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders. Participants also discussed the Bohol Renewable Energy Code and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, presented by Atty. Reynard D. Namocatcat of the Bohol Provincial Legal Office, providing important legal and policy considerations for the roadmap.

Toward a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Energy Future

The workshop provided technical knowledge, policy inputs, and stakeholder perspectives that will guide the continuing development of Bohol’s Renewable Energy Roadmap. The next activities will focus on consolidating the workshop outputs, refining proposed targets and strategies, and conducting further technical and stakeholder consultations. Through sustained collaboration and coordinated planning, Bohol aims to advance a more secure, sustainable, and climate-resilient energy future while maximizing its renewable energy resources. The initiative also supports the province’s broader efforts to strengthen energy security and pursue a long-term energy transition that benefits communities across Bohol.
