PANGLAO, Bohol — South Palms Resort & Spa Panglao MGallery Collection is marking its first anniversary with a growing list of international recognitions and plans to further elevate hospitality, dining, and local culture in Bohol.

A Strong First Year for South Palms

Since opening on August 8, 2025, South Palms has built a strong reputation among travelers and has been recognized across major travel platforms for its guest experience. The resort has also gained attention in the international hospitality industry, earning a spot as the highest-rated hotel on the island on TripAdvisor and other major travel platforms.

At the AHEAD Awards 2026, which recognizes outstanding hotel design and hospitality projects across Asia, South Palms was shortlisted in four categories: Resort, Spa and Wellness, Sustainability, and Event Spaces. The resort was shortlisted in more categories than any other Philippine property entered in this year's awards.

Sustainability Remains a Key Focus

South Palms has also placed sustainability at the center of its operations. The resort operates with 1,017 solar panels, treats its wastewater on site, and follows a zero single-use plastics policy. It also sources some of the produce used in its kitchens from its own farm.

These sustainability efforts helped the property earn a nomination for the Bernache Legacy Award, one of Accor's top recognitions for sustainability performance. The resort said its environmental practices reflect its goal of combining luxury hospitality with responsible and sustainable operations.

New Dining Experiences Coming to Bohol

As South Palms enters its second year, the resort is also preparing to refresh the menus at its three restaurants: UMA, MANJA, and Sirenna. The updates will be developed under the guidance of Culinary Consultant Chef Bettina Arguelles, with the goal of further strengthening the resort's food and beverage offerings.

UMA will continue to focus on progressive Filipino cuisine featuring produce from the resort's farm and locally sourced seafood. MANJA will retain its globally inspired comfort food concept, serving guests in its poolside and beachfront setting. Meanwhile, Sirenna will continue its cocktail program inspired by Boholano mythology and the local legends that helped shape the resort's identity.

First Anniversary Celebrates Boholano Culture

South Palms marked its first anniversary with an event that highlighted local food, culture, and storytelling. Guests enjoyed a beachside street food trail at Tiya's House, along with a regional cuisine spread prepared by Chef Bettina Arguelles and the South Palms culinary team.

One of the evening's highlights was a musical presentation titled “Sirenna and Other Deities,” based on a Boholano legend involving sea and sky gods. The performance was presented entirely by South Palms Heartists, showcasing the resort's efforts to incorporate local culture into the guest experience.

South Palms Looks Ahead

South Palms General Manager Danish Khan said the resort's first year has shown that authentic luxury and local character can work together. As it begins its second year, the resort plans to continue promoting Bohol's culture, food, craftsmanship, and hospitality to an international audience.

With its sustainability programs, culinary offerings, and growing international recognition, South Palms is positioning itself as one of Bohol's emerging destinations for luxury travel and locally inspired experiences.
