CEBU — The 30 candidates of Queen Universe Philippines 2026 paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Cindi King-Chan and Congressman Junard "Ahong" Chan on September 10, 2026, at the Mayor's Conference Room. The delegation, led by CEO Jess Labares, is in the city for the pageant's inaugural Grand Coronation Night at the Mactan Expo Center.

A Celebration of Culture and Tourism

Mayor King-Chan and Congressman Chan warmly welcomed the candidates and expressed full support for the pageant. They emphasized the importance of events that showcase the city's culture and heritage while promoting tourism, inclusivity, and community empowerment. The visit underscored Lapu-Lapu City's growing role as a host for major national events.

The pageant's presence in Lapu-Lapu City is expected to draw visitors, media attention, and economic activity. Local businesses, hotels, and restaurants stand to benefit from the influx of candidates, their teams, and pageant fans. The city's rich history and vibrant tourism scene provide an ideal backdrop for the competition.

Grand Coronation Night at Mactan Expo Center

The Grand Coronation Night is scheduled for September 13, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Mactan Expo Center in The Mactan Newtown. This marks the first-ever edition of Queen Universe Philippines, a national beauty pageant founded by Jess Labares, a history-making figure in Philippine aviation and pageantry.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Lapu-Lapu City granted full exemption from amusement tax for the event. This support reflects the local government's recognition of the pageant's value in promoting the city as a premier destination for culture and entertainment. The exemption ensures the event can proceed without financial burden.

Outreach Program on Olango Island

Beyond the competition, the candidates will conduct an outreach program on September 16, 2026, on Olango Island. The initiative includes the distribution of 30 bicycles to selected high school students. The program aims to empower young people and communities while allowing candidates to promote their advocacies.

Olango Island is known for its wildlife sanctuary and pristine mangroves, making it a fitting location for an activity that combines community service with environmental appreciation. The bicycle distribution will help students commute to school more easily. It is a tangible expression of the pageant's commitment to creating positive social impact.

Inclusivity and Empowerment at the Forefront

The pageant has been noted for its inclusivity, with multiple transgender candidates competing. Among them is Mikay Bautista of Pampanga, a pageant veteran who currently leads the official leaderboard. Her campaign has garnered widespread support, with Kapampangan stylists and creative teams rallying behind her bid.

Jess Labares, the pageant's CEO, has emphasized that the mission extends beyond the crown. Through the Queen Universe Philippines Foundation, the organization plans to launch livelihood programs and other initiatives to help communities become more sustainable and productive. The pageant is positioning itself as a platform for meaningful change.

A Boost for Local Pride and Hospitality

The candidates, representing various provinces from Batanes to Zamboanga, have been exploring Cebu's renowned hospitality. Their presence highlights the warmth and professionalism of Lapu-Lapu City's tourism industry. The pageant offers an opportunity for the city to demonstrate its capability to host large-scale events.

Local officials expressed optimism that the Queen Universe Philippines 2026 will leave a lasting legacy of empowerment and community engagement. The event is more than a beauty contest; it is a celebration of Filipino identity, talent, and compassion. Lapu-Lapu City is proud to be part of this historic moment.
