CITY OF TAGAYTAY, CAVITE — Some hotels offer a view. View Park Hotel Tagaytay offers a lesson in sustainability—right in its own backyard. Siglokalikasan, the hotel's educational farm tour and green initiative, is a program designed to promote sustainable tourism, environmental care, and local food culture. It's not just an amenity. It's a statement of purpose. And it's been growing quietly for years.
A Working Farm That Feeds the Restaurant
Siglokalikasan isn't a decorative garden; it's a working farm that supplies ingredients to Siglo Modern Filipino, the hotel's on-site restaurant known for its creative takes on Filipino cuisine. As early as 2019, the hotel's Quality Assurance Manager explained the philosophy behind it: "We support local farmers and our advocacy is to promote heirloom ingredients that we don't usually use nowadays. We want to revive Filipino traditions and the value of Filipino food" . The farm also plays a role in waste reduction, with food waste from the hotel and restaurant turned into compost that nourishes the soil and plants—a closed-loop system that embodies the principles of sustainable dining.
An Educational Experience for Every Visitor
Current listings describe the Siglokalikasan farm tour as an educational experience focused on endemic plants and their uses, culminating in a fresh herbal tea session . The program includes guided tours through organic vegetable gardens and fruit orchards, interactive workshops on seed planting, harvesting, and composting, and heritage and culinary learning experiences for families, students, and nature lovers . Farm-to-table dining at Siglo Modern Filipino completes the experience, allowing guests to taste the difference that fresh, locally sourced ingredients make.
A Model for Sustainable Tourism
The program was introduced to local tour operators and tourism associations, including CAITO, CDTTA, the Society of Independent Cavite Allied Travel and Tours, and PAETO, under the leadership of Hotel Manager Dorothy Tung and with the support of the Office of the Provincial Tourism Officer. For Tagaytay, Siglokalikasan is a model of what sustainable tourism can look like—rooted in the land, the culture, and the community. The hotel is located at 3500 Calamba-Tagaytay Road, opposite Picnic Grove, Tagaytay City, and can be reached at (0917) 631 3670 or [email protected].
