CARCAR CITY, Cebu — The World Surgical Foundation Philippines, in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government, is bringing the Cebu Pediatric Surgical Caravan 2026 to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City. From October 13 to 16, children aged 0 to 18 with specific medical conditions can receive free surgical operations. The initiative aims to provide accessible healthcare to underserved families across the province.

Free Surgeries for Cebu's Children

This humanitarian mission reflects the shared commitment of the provincial government and its partners to prioritize people's health. By bringing specialized surgical services directly to the community, the caravan removes financial and logistical barriers that often prevent children from receiving timely treatment. Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro has championed this effort under her "People first, Service first" governance philosophy.

Conditions Covered by the Caravan

The program addresses a range of congenital and acquired conditions that require surgical intervention. These include Hirschsprung's disease, a bowel disorder; hydrocele or hernia; hypospadias, a congenital condition of the urethra; and undescended testes. Children with lipoma or other masses are also eligible for assessment and possible surgery.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their children for evaluation if they exhibit any of these conditions. Early detection and treatment can prevent complications and improve long-term health outcomes. The caravan provides a vital opportunity for families who might otherwise be unable to afford such procedures.

Screening, Admission, and Surgery Dates

Pre-screening and listing are currently ongoing at the Outpatient Department of CPH-Carcar. Families can visit from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to register and have their children assessed. The final screening is scheduled for October 4, 2026, ensuring that all eligible cases are identified before the surgical mission begins.

Admission of patients will take place on October 13, 2026. The actual surgeries are slated for October 14 and 15. This structured timeline allows the medical team to prepare adequately and provide each child with the attention they deserve. Parents are advised to complete the screening process early to secure a slot.

Partners Providing Expertise and Support

The success of this caravan relies on the collaboration of numerous medical organizations and advocates. The World Surgical Foundation Philippines leads the mission, working alongside the Philippine College of Surgeons' Surgery in the Underserved Region and for Education program. Other partners include the Philippine Society of Pediatric Surgeons and the Philippine Society of Anesthesiologists.

Additional support comes from ORNAP, the periOperative Nurses Association of the Philippines, and Calmoseptine. The Senate Spouses Foundation, Inc. and the Philippine Society for Pediatric Anesthesia have also contributed. Their collective expertise ensures that every child receives safe, high-quality surgical care.

How Families Can Avail of the Service

Families with eligible children should proceed to the CPH-Carcar Outpatient Department for assessment and listing. The hospital staff will guide them through the necessary steps, including documentation and medical evaluation. There is no cost for the screening or the surgery, making it accessible to all qualified patients.

The caravan is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in delivering essential health services. By working together, the government and its partners are ensuring that no Cebuano child is left behind. Parents are urged to spread the word to others who might benefit from this opportunity.

A Mission of Compassion and Care

The Cebu Pediatric Surgical Caravan 2026 embodies the spirit of bayanihan and compassion. It brings hope to families facing the daunting prospect of surgery without the means to afford it. Every child treated is a life changed, a future secured, and a community strengthened.

Through this initiative, the Cebu Provincial Government reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of its youngest constituents. The caravan is more than a medical mission; it is a promise that every child deserves a healthy start in life. For those who qualify, this is a chance to receive life-changing care at no cost.
