TABOGON, CEBU — The Municipality of Tabogon has officially completed the installation of a new 900-cubic-meter glass-reinforced plastic water tank in Barangay Caduawan. The crucial facility was personally inspected by Mayor Francis Edward T. Salimbangon on October 15, 2026, addressing critical water shortages caused by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

Rebuilding After the Quake

The devastating September 30, 2025 earthquake severely damaged the town's old 800-cubic-meter concrete tank and several main pipelines. This structural failure left multiple barangays experiencing significantly reduced and limited water supply, creating daily challenges for affected households relying on the system.

To bridge the gap, the new glass-reinforced plastic tank was successfully installed to serve as a highly reliable replacement. The local government continues to monitor the ongoing testing phase to ensure proper operation and verify its ability to distribute water efficiently to remote areas.

A Timely Defense Against El Niño

The completion of this infrastructure arrives at a highly crucial moment as weather experts project a very strong El Niño. Mayor Salimbangon stressed that the new facility is highly timely, providing a vital lifeline as the municipality prepares for potential dry spells ahead.

Rigorous testing is currently underway to evaluate the tank's performance and its capacity to supply water across the municipality. Local officials are carefully tracking the water delivery to ensure that even the most secluded parts of the barangays receive adequate supply.

Expanding Storage Capacity

Beyond operating the new tank, Mayor Salimbangon has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the damaged 800-cubic-meter concrete tank. Repairing the old structure is expected to further increase the town's overall water storage capacity and improve distribution networks for residents.

Running both facilities simultaneously will significantly enhance the municipality's ability to manage its valuable water resources. This dual approach ensures that the growing needs of the community are consistently met, even during peak demand or sudden emergencies.

Community and Financial Support

The completion of the new water tank was made possible through the generous financial assistance and donations from various organizations and local government units. The collaborative effort highlights the bayanihan spirit in helping Tabogon recover from the devastating effects of the earthquake.

The mayor extended his heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors and the town's loyal taxpayers for their unwavering support. The LGU and the Tabogon Waterworks System remain fully committed to monitoring the water supply and implementing effective measures to address any remaining challenges.
