CEBU — The countdown to Cebu Province's most meaningful footrace is nearly over. The 1st Governor's Zero Hunger Run 2026 fires off on Sunday, August 2, with around 3,500 runners set to pound the pavement for a cause that goes far beyond the finish line.
Race Kits Ready for Pickup Starting July 30
Before the starting horn sounds, runners must claim their race kits at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall from July 30 to August 1. The claiming station operates from ten in the morning until six in the evening without a lunch break, giving participants ample time to collect their bibs and singlets. Each runner must present a valid ID and registration confirmation at the booth.
For those who cannot claim in person, an authorized representative may pick up the kit by presenting a signed authorization letter along with copies of both the runner's and the representative's valid IDs. Organizers stressed that these requirements will be strictly enforced to ensure a smooth and orderly distribution. The three‑day window gives everyone enough time to prepare before race day.
A Governor on the Starting Line
Governor Pamela Baricuatro will not just fire the starting gun; she will lace up her own running shoes and join the 3K category. Her participation underscores the personal commitment behind the event and encourages more Cebuanos to take part. The governor has championed the run as a way to combine fitness, community spirit, and the fight against hunger in a single, powerful event.
The race offers distances for every fitness level. Competitive runners can tackle the 21K half‑marathon or the 12K and 6K categories. Beginners and families are welcome in the 3K and 1K fun run, where the governor herself will run. A prize pool of over ₱230,000 awaits top finishers across all competitive distances.
Running to End Hunger
Every registration peso directly supports the Capitol's "Help to End Hunger" campaign and local child feeding initiatives. Proceeds also fund the newly reactivated Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, which will use the money for youth talent identification and community sports programs. The run transforms individual fitness goals into collective action against malnutrition.
The "Zero Hunger" theme extends to the race experience itself. Hydration stations along the route will double as mini tourism exhibits, showcasing Cebuano delicacies and local attractions. Organizers have guaranteed that every finisher will receive a hearty meal after crossing the line, ensuring that no one leaves the Capitol grounds hungry.
A Province Running as One
What began as a modest 2,500‑runner target swelled to 3,500 due to overwhelming public demand. The expanded slots filled quickly, reflecting the community's eagerness to support a meaningful cause. The starting line at the Cebu Provincial Capitol will welcome elite athletes, local officials, students, and families united by a shared purpose.
The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, under Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejano and Race Director Dwight Velasco, has designed a course that is both challenging and scenic. Roads will be secured, medical teams will be on standby, and the finish line will buzz with celebration. Every step taken on August 2 will echo the message that Cebu runs together to leave hunger behind.
