Davao — The city has officially strengthened its “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program, deploying 12 new vehicles to provide free transportation for indigent students living in underserved and remote communities. Spearheaded by Liga ng mga Barangay President January Duterte, the initiative is designed to remove financial barriers to education by ensuring that learners have access to a reliable and safe daily commute.
Removing Financial Barriers to Learning
The program addresses one of the most common obstacles faced by students in the city: the lack of funds for daily transportation. By providing free school service units, the initiative helps students focus on their academic performance rather than the stresses of commuting. As Liga ng mga Barangay President January Duterte emphasized, financial constraints should never prevent young Dabawenyos from attending classes, and the program serves as a practical solution to keep students in school.
Expanding Reach Across Davao’s Districts
The 12 newly deployed vehicles will be distributed across the city’s three districts, significantly increasing the program's coverage. This latest deployment complements an earlier batch of vehicles turned over last year to nine barangays, including Malamba, Malagos, Inayangan, Pandaitan, San Isidro, Mudiang, Maa, Talomo Proper, and Bago Gallera. With this addition, the Liga ng mga Barangay has successfully provided a total of 26 vehicles, marking a major expansion in the initiative's ability to reach learners in the city's most isolated areas.
Sustaining Long-Term Educational Support
This expansion reflects the local government's ongoing commitment to making education accessible to all children in Davao City. By institutionalizing the “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program, the Liga ng mga Barangay is ensuring that students have consistent support throughout their academic journey. The continued growth of the fleet demonstrates the success of the project in meeting the needs of the community and its dedication to fostering a more inclusive educational environment for every learner in the region.
