Thousands of families in Negros Oriental are receiving food assistance through the provincial government's Bawat Bayan Makikinabang (BBM) – Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program, which distributed 7,011 sacks of rice weighing 10 kilograms each on October 12, 2026. The distribution was carried out by the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Sibulan, bringing rice assistance directly to residents across several barangays.
Rice Assistance Reaches Local Communities
The rice distribution covered the barangays of Looc, Maslog, Cangmating, Tubtubon, and Bolocboloc. With 7,011 sacks distributed, the initiative delivered a total of 70,110 kilograms of rice to support families in the community. Governor Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria personally led the distribution, joined by municipal councilors, barangay captains, and barangay health workers. The program reflects the provincial government's efforts to bring food assistance closer to residents through coordination between provincial and municipal officials.
Strengthening Support for Families
Rice is a staple food for Filipino households, making food assistance an important form of support for families managing everyday expenses. Programs that distribute essential goods can help recipients allocate more of their household budgets to other basic needs.
Through the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang program, the provincial government aims to extend assistance directly to communities while encouraging cooperation among local government offices and barangay officials. The participation of local representatives and health workers also helped bring the distribution effort closer to the residents it was intended to serve.
Continuing Community Assistance in Negros Oriental
The rice distribution highlights the role of local government collaboration in delivering public assistance. By working with municipal and barangay officials, the provincial government can coordinate the delivery of resources to communities across the province.
For residents who received the rice assistance, the initiative provides additional food supplies for their households. It also underscores the importance of community-based programs in responding to everyday needs.
