A Digital Classroom Takes Shape
GENERAL SANTOS CITY - At Berwar Integrated School, technology is moving from an idea on paper into an actual classroom resource. DOST SOCCSKSARGEN and the DepEd Schools Division of Lanao del Norte signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the pilot implementation of e-TURO during the September deployment. The system is intended to provide digital learning resources that can complement classroom instruction, with features including AI-assisted content generation, automated assessment functions, and learning management tools. The pilot covers selected Grade 6 classes involving approximately 80 learners and participating teachers for the 2026–2027 school year.
Teachers Get New Tools, Too
The project is not simply about placing computers or software inside a school. Its implementation includes hardware, software, connectivity support, training for teachers and school personnel, technical assistance, monitoring, and assessments. That combination gives educators time to become familiar with the system while allowing the pilot to examine how useful it is in an actual school environment. DOST SOCCSKSARGEN also described the project as an opportunity to understand its usability, effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and potential for expansion. For participating teachers, that means the technology comes with preparation and support rather than being left as another unfamiliar tool to figure out alone.
One School, One Useful Test for the Future
Berwar Integrated School will serve as more than a recipient of new educational technology; it will also become a pilot site where the project can be observed and assessed. DOST SOCCSKSARGEN said the initiative is being implemented through its Science for Peace Program, with partners including DepEd Lanao del Norte, the Municipality of Tangcal, Berwar Integrated School, RYR Innovations, and community and peace partners. The goal is practical: see how digital learning can work within the circumstances of an underserved community and gather lessons that could inform future interventions. For learners, the immediate opportunity is simple—a new way to learn, explore, and engage with lessons.
