When Numbers Start Telling a Local Story
GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The Philippine Statistics Authority–Sarangani Provincial Statistical Office conducted a Community-Based Monitoring System data presentation at Holy Trinity College of General Santos City in Barangay Dadiangas North. The activity, reported by PSA was designed to introduce CBMS to faculty members, staff, students, and researchers while explaining its uses. A total of 29 participants from different departments attended the session. Instead of treating statistics as something found only in reports and spreadsheets, the presentation gave members of the academic community a closer look at how such information can be used to understand conditions within communities.
From Classroom Discussion to Useful Evidence
CBMS has a practical role because the information it provides can contribute to evidence-based planning and decision-making. During the General Santos City presentation, PSA resource persons discussed the system's key features and applications in planning, policy formulation, program implementation, and research. That makes the subject particularly relevant to students and faculty members who may work with community issues in their studies or future professions. The session also creates a bridge between academic learning and the kind of information used when communities and institutions assess what needs attention.
A Small Campus Session With a Wider Purpose
The September activity was also part of PSA Sarangani's continuing effort to engage outside stakeholders and encourage wider use of CBMS information. Holy Trinity College opened the session to deans, faculty members, staff researchers, and student representatives, giving several parts of the school community a chance to participate. The PSA said the activity was intended to promote research, planning, and informed decision-making through better understanding of community data. For General Santos City, that means the value of the session reaches beyond one presentation: it encourages people who study and work in the city to look at local issues through information that can help explain them.
