CEBU CITY — The Cebu Provincial Government is set to transform the Cebu City Sports Center into a grand stage of faith and culture on August 29, 2026. Halad sa Pagtuo 2026 will bring together 50 beautifully adorned carrozas from across the province in a solemn celebration of Cebuano heritage.
A Procession of Saints Through the City
The event begins with a procession at 2:30 PM, assembling at the Cebu Provincial Capitol before making its way along Osmeña Boulevard. Unlike traditional foot processions, the carrozas will be the main participants, traveling through Fuente Osmeña en route to the Cebu City Sports Center. Spectators are invited to watch from designated sidewalks along the route.
The procession is a visual feast, with each carroza representing the patron saint of a participating municipality or city. This year, Cebu City itself will present two carrozas honoring the Birhen sa Guadalupe and the Sto. Niño. The display is a powerful reminder of the deep-rooted Catholic faith that binds the province together.
A Showcase of Festivals Without Competition
Upon arrival at the sports center, a concelebrated Holy Mass will be held, with parish priests from participating towns joining their devotees. The Mass will be followed by a blessing of all the carrozas. The event then transitions into a vibrant celebration of local culture.
Seven festivals will present their unique dances and music, including the Sinulog sa Carmen and the La Torta Festival of Argao. Unlike the previous Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, these presentations are not competitions but heartfelt offerings of thanksgiving. This non-competitive format aligns with Governor Pamela Baricuatro's vision for the event.
A New Era for Cebu's Faith Celebrations
Halad sa Pagtuo represents an evolution from the Pasundayag sa Pagtuo and a departure from the competitive Pasigarbo sa Sugbo. Provincial Tourism Office Head Rowenna Montecillo clarified that the celebration is focused on faith and heritage rather than rivalry. The goal is to bring the highlights of Cebu's town fiestas to the city.
Each participating LGU received a ₱2-million subsidy to cover logistics, ensuring smooth participation. Three towns—Alcantara, Cordova, and Daanbantayan—are unable to join due to their own fiesta schedules. Despite this, the event promises a rich representation of the province's diverse traditions.
Free Admission with Limited Seating
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is strictly limited. Only around 2,000 free wristbands will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates open on the day of the event, with three designated entrances for different groups: carrozas, VIPs, and the general public.
Security will be tight, with nearly 300 personnel deployed from combined provincial and city forces. No full road closures are planned for the procession; only one lane will be utilized. Officials expect around 10,000 spectators around the vicinity.
An Evening of Faith and Community
The program is expected to conclude by 7:30 PM. Carrozas will exit through designated routes to ensure a smooth flow back to their towns. The event aims to sustain an annual tradition that carries forward Cebu's faith and festival spirit.
Halad sa Pagtuo 2026 stands as a meaningful gathering where Cebuanos can celebrate their shared identity. It is an invitation for everyone to witness the soul of Cebu—where devotion and festivity come together in harmony.
