Private partners such as Converge FiberX and South Balibago Waterworks have also joined the lineup, ensuring that communication and utility resilience are part of the preparedness equation.

From July 15 to 17, the Megaworld‑managed Convention Drive will open its doors from four in the afternoon until nine in the evening. Education is woven into the event through K‑Talks, or Kabalaka Briefings, which pack critical survival knowledge into short, digestible sessions. Top disaster risk reduction specialists will lead 10‑to‑15‑minute talks covering earthquake safety, flood preparedness, and climate resilience. The brevity of each session is intentional, designed to hold attention and make key points unforgettable.
These briefings reflect the expo’s core belief that preparedness must be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background. A high school student walking through the venue can learn the same basic response principles as a barangay captain. The name KABALAKA is an acronym for “Kahublagan sa Barangay para sa Lapnagon nga Kahandaan sa Kalamidad,” which translates to “Movement for Community‑Based Disaster Preparedness.” It embodies the city’s shift from a top‑down emergency response model to one where barangays are empowered to act. The expo is the most visible expression of this philosophy, but the work continues year‑round.
This year’s edition marks the second iteration of the expo and coincides with National Disaster Resilience Month. It builds on the success of the inaugural event, which drew over 1,700 visitors and 22 exhibitors, by expanding its coalition and deepening its interactive offerings.
