CABATUAN, ILOILO — The Iloilo Provincial Government has officially partnered with national agencies and the local municipal government to launch the province's first school-based TechnoHub. The facility aims to equip public high school students with vital skills in emerging technologies and information and communications technology.
A Pioneer Hub for Future Innovators
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. signed the memorandum of agreement at Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School, alongside the turnover of P15 million for the facility's construction. This marks a significant leap forward in local tech education and youth empowerment.
This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between traditional education and emerging industry demands. By introducing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and 3D printing to public high schools, the government ensures that learners from all backgrounds can compete globally.
The hub will provide hands-on training in drone technology and other highly specialized fields. The provincial government will fund the establishment, equipment, and supplies, while also supporting teacher training and ongoing monitoring to ensure the facility remains highly effective.
Empowering Tech-Voc Students
Governor Defensor emphasized that this initiative will redirect students whose innate strengths align with technical-vocational education. He noted that providing them with a clear path forward validates their unique abilities and career aspirations.
"That is not a weakness. That is just a strength that we never harness," Defensor stated, underscoring the province's commitment to providing opportunities for every type of learner. It is about validating diverse talents and providing them a platform to thrive.
Beyond technical skills, the hub fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. These competencies are increasingly vital in a rapidly digitizing economy, giving local students a distinct advantage when entering college or the competitive job market.
A Multi-Agency Synergy
The success of this groundbreaking initiative relies on a robust partnership between the provincial government, DOST Region 6, TESDA Region 6, DepEd Region 6, and the municipal government. Each entity plays a crucial role in the hub's daily operations.
TESDA provides the necessary training programs, expert trainers, and competency assessment pathways. Meanwhile, DOST extends invaluable technical expertise and provides access to broader innovation networks, ensuring the curriculum stays updated with global tech trends.
Maria Alfreda Fajardo, Chief of the Provincial Education Management Office, noted that this collaboration opens doors to future opportunities. It helps students acquire necessary skills and builds their confidence to secure a place in tomorrow's workforce.
Expanding the Technological Footprint
Considered the first of its kind in the country, the CNCHS TechnoHub broke ground in August. The provincial government is already planning to establish two to three more similar hubs in the province to broaden the impact.
Funding for these additional TechnoHubs is set to be included in this year's supplemental budget. This expansion will further democratize access to advanced technological education, preparing more students for high-tech careers and future-ready industries.
This strategic investment in education signals a forward-thinking approach to regional development. It positions the province as a hub for digital innovation, ready to cultivate the skilled workforce required by modern industries in the years to come.
