ILOILO — The provincial government has released ₱2.767 million in cash incentives to honor 420 Ilonggo athletes who brought pride to the province in regional and national competitions. The awarding was held during Pasindungog sa Atletang Ilonggo, a program celebrating dedication, discipline, and sporting excellence.

A Celebration of Ilonggo Sporting Excellence

The initiative recognized athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, and chaperones who represented Iloilo in various events. Their hard work and perseverance took center stage during the ceremony, which reaffirmed the province’s commitment to nurturing young sporting talents and promoting long-term sports development.

Of the total amount, ₱1.892 million went to athletes who competed in the Palarong Pambansa. Another ₱249,000 was allocated to participants in the WVRAA Meet. The remaining ₱626,000 supported athletes who joined Batang Pinoy and other national and regional competitions.

Honoring Dedication and Discipline

The cash incentives serve as tangible recognition of the sacrifices athletes make throughout the year. Training sessions, travel, and competition demands often require families to shoulder heavy costs. By providing financial rewards, the provincial government eases some of that burden while celebrating achievements.

The program is anchored on Resolution No. 2022-256, which embodies Provincial Ordinance No. 2022-217. This legal framework provides rewards and recognition to outstanding provincial athletes and their support teams. It ensures that excellence in sports receives consistent and meaningful acknowledgment from the local government.

Coaches and trainers also play a vital role in shaping athletes. Their guidance, patience, and expertise transform raw talent into competitive skill. By including them in the recognition, the province acknowledges that victory is always a collective effort.

Supporting Future Champions

Governor Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. has consistently championed sports development across Iloilo. Under his leadership, the provincial government continues to encourage athletes to pursue excellence, develop their potential, and bring greater honor to the province in future competitions.

The distribution of incentives also motivates younger athletes to dream bigger. When they see their peers rewarded for hard work, they understand that dedication yields results. This creates a positive cycle that strengthens the province’s sports ecosystem and builds a pipeline of future champions.

The athletes themselves become role models for younger Ilonggos. Their stories of sacrifice and triumph encourage children to pursue sports and healthy lifestyles. Every incentive awarded represents an investment in character, confidence, and community pride.

A Commitment That Goes Beyond Medals

The Pasindungog sa Atletang Ilonggo program reflects a broader vision of inclusive development. Sports provide discipline, teamwork, and life skills that benefit communities long after competitions end. By investing in athletes, Iloilo invests in its youth and its future.

The provincial government’s continued support sends a clear message. Ilonggo athletes are valued not only for the medals they win but for the character they display. Their journeys inspire fellow residents and reinforce the importance of perseverance in every endeavor.
