ILOILO CITY — The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is celebrating one of its own after Dr. Christopher Marlowe A. Caipang was named among the World's Top 5% Scientists in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry. The recognition places the Filipino researcher in an elite global circle of scientific excellence.
A Career Built on Curiosity and Rigor
Dr. Caipang’s fascination with life sciences began early, sparked by a simple childhood observation of a frog’s life cycle. That curiosity led him to complete his BS in Fisheries at UPV, graduating cum laude, before earning his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. His academic journey included postdoctoral work in Japan and Norway, followed by years as a research scientist in Singapore.
His return to the Philippines in 2018 marked a significant investment in local scientific capacity. He now serves as the Director of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) at UPV and as an Associate Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences. From his base in Miagao, Iloilo, he continues to push the boundaries of aquatic health research.
