ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Government is now accepting nominations for The Outstanding Ilonggo Awards, a citywide search for everyday heroes whose selfless service has quietly transformed their neighborhoods. The recognition is one of the highlights of the upcoming 89th Iloilo City Charter Day celebration.
Honoring the Quiet Heroes Among Us
The awards program seeks individuals whose compassion and dedication have created lasting impact, not through grand gestures, but through consistent, meaningful action. Organizers emphasize that the recognition is for ordinary citizens whose contributions might otherwise go unnoticed. Whether mentoring children, feeding the hungry, or protecting the environment, each nominee embodies the spirit of service that defines the Ilonggo identity.
City officials believe that celebrating these unsung heroes inspires others to act. The awards show that every resident, regardless of profession or background, has the power to build a stronger community. The search is on for those who lead by example, whose footprints will guide future generations.
Who Can Be Nominated
Any resident of Iloilo City who is at least 18 years old and of Ilonggo lineage may be nominated. Nominees must have a track record of outstanding service, volunteerism, leadership, or innovation that has significantly benefited their community. The program looks for individuals whose projects have created sustainable, long‑term positive change, whether in education, health, the arts, or civic engagement.
Self‑nominations are accepted, provided all required documents are submitted. Nominators may be individuals, organizations, barangays, schools, or community groups, but nominations from local government offices are not allowed. All nominees must possess good moral character and have no pending criminal cases, as verified by NBI and police clearances.
How to Submit a Nomination
Each nomination portfolio must include a completed form, a recent photo, and a comprehensive narrative profile of no more than 1,500 words. The narrative should detail the nominee’s community involvement, the tangible impact of their service, and the personal story that drives their commitment. At least two letters of endorsement from employers, peers, or community organizations are also required.
Supporting evidence such as certificates, testimonials, news articles, and project reports strengthens the submission. A Barangay Certification of Residency or birth certificate of the nominee or their parents must prove Ilonggo lineage. Nominations may be written in English or Hiligaynon, making the process accessible to all residents.
Deadline and Where to Submit
All completed nomination portfolios must be turned in by July 20, 2026. Hard‑copy documents should be delivered to the Public Information Office, 5th Floor, Iloilo City Hall, Plaza Libertad. The nomination form is available online for convenience, and early submission is encouraged to allow sufficient time for review.
The Outstanding Ilonggo Awards will be presented during the 89th Charter Day festivities in August. The city government invites everyone to nominate a deserving neighbor, colleague, or community leader. The search is on for those who make Iloilo City a better place, one act of kindness at a time.
