TAGAYTAY CITY - welcomed the Department of Tourism's Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) training on August 19, 2026, at the Development Academy of the Philippines, equipping tourism workers with professional skills and the core values of genuine Filipino hospitality.

A Flagship Program for World-Class Filipino Service

Tagaytay City served as the venue for the Department of Tourism's FBSE training, a flagship program designed to set a standard for delivering world-class service with a uniquely Filipino touch . The training covered essential modules including the Philippine Tourism Industry Situationer, the 7Ms of Filipino Hospitality, the GUEST Steps to Service Excellence, and the HEART of Service Recovery . Participants learned practical approaches to guest care rooted in the core values of malasakit (compassion), pagmamalasakit (genuine care), and the 7M's that Filipinos are widely known for: Malikhain (Creative), Makatao (Humane), Makakalikasan (Pro-Environment), Makabansa (Patriotic), Masayahin (Cheerful), May Bayanihan (Community-Spirited), and May Pag-asa (Hopeful).

The training, led by speaker Phoebe Joyce C. Villanueva, aimed to improve service quality in tourism and hospitality, teach practical ways to care for guests, and build a world-class reputation for Philippine tourism . Through the FBSE, the DOT aims to empower frontline tourism workers—from hotel staff and tour guides to community frontliners—with the skills and mindset needed to make every visitor's experience truly memorable.

The Development Academy of the Philippines as Training Venue

Tagaytay City's Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) provided an ideal setting for this capacity-building initiative. The DAP, a government-owned and controlled corporation established in 1973 under Presidential Decree No. 205, is mandated to capacitate individuals and development stakeholder organizations to perform their roles in development more efficiently and effectively . The Academy's history is deeply rooted in Tagaytay, as it was on February 1, 1973, that the concept for the DAP was born during a meeting in the city .

The DAP offers various training programs for public and private sector professionals, and its mission of fostering synergy and supporting development forces at work aligns perfectly with the DOT's goal of elevating service standards across the tourism industry . The FBSE training at the DAP reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to promoting excellence in leadership and organizations through education and capacity-building programs that benefit the nation's tourism sector.
