Healthcare Services Reach More Communities

BACOLOD - In La Carlota City, around 2,100 senior citizens from 14 barangays are expected to register during the YAKAP Caravan running from October 27 to 30. The activity is designed to reach seniors who have not yet enrolled or have not yet been assigned to a YAKAP primary care provider. PhilHealth's Local Health Insurance Office-Bacolod is working with the La Carlota City Primary Care Facility I to assist residents with the enrollment process. Bringing registration into a familiar community setting can make it easier for residents to understand the program and complete the steps needed to access its benefits.

Young Negrenses Are Joining the Program Too

YAKAP is also reaching younger residents as part of its community-based approach. During an information and help desk activity for graduating students of Bago City College on October 23, PhilHealth-Bacolod assisted around 400 participants, with at least 300 students completing their first patient encounter. On the same day, another caravan in Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City, assigned 323 participants to YAKAP facilities, while 270 completed their first patient encounter. These activities show how primary care access can become part of different stages of people's lives, from students preparing for their careers to older residents seeking regular healthcare.

Primary Care Starts With Taking the First Step

YAKAP's benefits include consultations, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and access to 75 essential medicines through the GAMOT program. By helping residents register, choose a primary care facility, and complete their first patient encounter, the program creates a pathway toward more regular use of primary healthcare services. For communities across Negros, the growing reach of YAKAP demonstrates how healthcare becomes more accessible when services meet people where they are. The goal is simple but important: make it easier for more Negrenses to know where to go, whom to see, and how to begin taking care of their health.
