EL NIDO, PALAWAN — Ayala Land's Lio Estate is strengthening its water infrastructure with a new seawater reverse osmosis facility that will produce up to 500 cubic meters of potable water daily. The project, set to operate in August 2027, supports the estate's expanding tourism, residential, and commercial offerings.
A New Water Source for a Growing Estate
Lio Estate currently relies on its own groundwater wells. The new facility will diversify its water sources and reduce reliance on a single supply, particularly during peak demand. This strategic move ensures that infrastructure keeps pace with the estate's rapid development.
Cris Zuluaga, Head of Ayala Land Leisure Estates, emphasized the importance of forward planning. He said the facility is part of a long-term view that strengthens existing systems while preparing for future needs. The goal is to stay ahead of demand rather than catching up to it.
Turning Seawater into Potable Water
The facility will use Seawater Reverse Osmosis technology to treat seawater into drinking water. Estate Water, a division of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, will develop and operate the plant. The treated water will meet Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water and all regulatory requirements.
Rubenson Cruz, Technical Services Head of Estate Water, noted that the additional source will enhance water security. It will improve supply reliability across the estate while supporting responsible management of groundwater resources. The project will comply with environmental permits and safeguards throughout construction and operation.
Supporting Future Developments
The desalination plant will support several upcoming projects within Lio Estate. These include the Balai Adlao Expansion, Tara Hostel, Estate Support Facilities, additional retail offerings, and Sitio Aplaya, the estate's newest residential-commercial district.
By securing water supply, Lio Estate ensures that these developments can proceed without interruption. The facility forms part of Ayala Land's vision of creating well-planned, resilient estates where infrastructure supports communities, businesses, and visitors alike.
